With the entry into force of stricter regulations, Sweden is today leaving its special path in the matter of coronavirus. For the first time, there are now requirements for meetings in public; only eight people are allowed to meet. Previously, 50 to 300 people were allowed to meet, depending on the occasion.

Schools and restaurants are to remain open according to the government order. However, restaurant operators must ensure that no more than eight guests are seated per table.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Sweden has taken a less restrictive approach than most other European countries. Critics therefore accused the Swedish authorities of endangering human lives with their strategy. Nevertheless, the government has so far refrained from imposing restrictions – instead, it has merely made recommendations to citizens.
